Music that stays in the background of the story

At the table, the best music is the kind that nobody discusses. It nudges the mood while players talk, argue and roll dice.

Tracks with a strong vocal line or a very prominent melody tend to draw attention away from the game master's description.

There are 213 dungeon-themed tracks in the catalog, and 100% are instrumental. They come from the game and battle genres, so the range goes from slow exploration pieces to tense chase music.

Run music without breaking the flow

Build short playlists by scene type in advance rather than searching mid-session. Three to five tracks per scene is enough, and sorting them roughly from calm to intense lets you move the mood by skipping forward.

Keep the volume low enough that players can hear each other comfortably. A good test is whether the quietest player at the table can be heard without leaning in.

If you stream your campaign, test your mix with the voices first, since the music is often louder in a stream than it feels in the room.

Streaming and recording your sessions

If you publish recordings or livestream sessions, the tracks can be used in your videos under the site license. Check each platform's rules on the use of music in live content.

The site cannot guarantee that an automated system will not flag a track.

For longer recordings, compare the fantasy RPG guide and the boss battle guide. Both include tracks suited to the big moments of a campaign.

A small note on the track names

Many titles are written for games, so they may mention places, battles or levels. Use them as hints, and rely on the audio.

A track called a march may well work as a calm walking theme, and a gentle title may hide a tense piece.
